It was weird growing up a block or two from a naval weapons station and a chain link fence with barbwire separating the high school from the seemingly endless bunkers. There were rumors that the no mans land between the two fences that was constantly tilled contained land mines and snipers where hidden in the regular towers. Also wondering what might be hidden in those bunkers. Then later learning about the Port Chicago explosion.

I grew up in a town that had a huge Navy ammunition plant, at the highest point it produced 40% of the munitions used during WWII. It had a few explosions as well. I’ve heard all sorts of stories, and there are so many creepy buildings and bunkers left behind.

I want to live in one of the bunkers. would be cool to have a neighborhood of them and people out bbq’n and mowing their lawns.
